Yeovil Town v Forest Green Rovers
 Women's Football News 12 Dec 2009

Yeovil Town v Forest Green Rovers - 12 Dec 2009 - Women's Football NewsF.A.Women's Cup - Road to the Final
After many weeks of waiting, Yeovil Town have finally learned their opponents for their Second Round tie! It was no less than four weeks ago that Yeovil ended the hopes of Saltash Utd with a 3-0 victory, thanks to a Jemma Tewkesbury double and Lyndsey Roe.

The First Round match between Cullompton Rangers and Forest Green Rovers was postponed four times before the Devon side withdrew from the competition and Forest Green were granted a bye through to the next stage.

Forest Green Rovers LFC was formed at the commencement of the 2002-03 season after changing their name from Chalford Ladies F.C who had been founded three years earlier. In their first season, Chalford won the Gloucestershire County Women's League title as well as the League Cup and were promoted to the Premier Division of the South West League twelve months later.

In their first season in the Premier Division, they finished as runners-up to Exeter City and reached the Pat Sowden League Cup Final. The following season, now known as Forest Green Rovers, they won the League and Cup 'double' and won promotion to the South West Combination, where they have remained ever since.

They have finished in fifth place in the Combination on no less than three occasions but have shown good form in Cup competitions in recent years. Having twice finished as runners-up, they won the Gloucestershire County Cup for the first time last season, beating Cheltenham Town 2-0 in the Final.

Nationally, they have gone as far as the Fourth Round of the F.A.Women's Cup in two of the last three seasons. In 2007-08, having beaten Keynsham Town in the previous round, they were knocked out by Liverpool and they played another top flight team at that stage last season, going down to Leeds Carnegie.

Manager Phil Orsborn has a strong squad at his disposal, containing several players with top flight experience as well as a number of club stalwarts. One of the long serving players, Ellie Bartlett, will captain the side whilst the likes of Kirsty Richardson, Charlotte King and Carly Bryant have all played National Division football with Bristol City. Alana Willson is regularly on the scoresheet and Laura Bray, one of the leading goalscorers at Combination level, has recently joined the club. Natalie Holbrook and Lisa Mansell are key players in the midfield area whilst Leanne Buffery, Jodie Shepherd and Abbie Sadler are all reliable in defence.

Sadly Forest Green will be without their record goalscorer Phil Helliwell, who is continuing her recovery from a long term injury.

Yeovil are likely to start off the match as narrow favourites but matches between the sides have been close in recent years and Forest Green possess a number of players with big match experience. When the sides met in the league back in September, Yeovil won 2-1 with a Jemma Tewkesbury double and this week's meeting, at Somerton Sports Ground, is set to be just as close. Newquay await the winners in the Third Round.
