Barnet went five points clear in the Southern Division following a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace.

Stacey Sowden netted both goals for the Bees, to put them in good stead for this week's F.A.Women's Cup quarter final with Nottingham Forest, with Palace replying through Jo Woodgates.

Portsmouth now head the chasing teams, moving themselves into second place by beating Queen's Park Rangers 5-2.

Cally Beaumont headed Pompey ahead in the ninth minute and Kirsty McGee doubled the lead, before Justine Lorton added a third on the half hour with a spectacular 35-yard strike. After the break, an own goal increased Portsmouth's advantage and Lorton netted with another long range goal, before Cherelle Albert and Rebecca Kane bagged late goals for Rangers.

Reading FC Women had started the day in second but their challenge received a setback as they were beaten 1-0 by Cardiff City. Cori Williams scored the only goal of the game ten minutes into the second half to lift the South Wales side into fifth place.
