Cardiff and UWIC in Final  Share this Women's Football News on Face Book Share this Women's Football News on Twitter
 Women's Football News 24 Feb 2010

Cardiff City will play UWIC in this season's FA of Wales Cup Final after the teams had contrasting victories in their respective semi finals.

Holders Cardiff ran out 4-0 winners over Llandudno Junction in their semi, played at Newtown. Ellie Davies netted twice in the first half but it wasn't until the last ten minutes that the Premier League side completed the scoring, with further strikes from Danielle Broadhurst and Terri Beddows.

The other semi final between UWIC and Swansea City was destined to be a close affair in Port Talbot and this turned out to be the case. A keenly contested match could not be decided in 120 minutes of football and, following the resulting goalless draw, the match went to penalties.

Goalkeeper Phillipa Gent emerged as the hero for the students as she saved two Swansea penalties before Lauren Smith stepped up to slot home the decisive kick to send UWIC into the Final for the first time.

The Final will be played on Sunday 18 April at the Bridge Meadow Stadium, Haverfordwest.
