It was an all-Luton Town Under-16 Bedfordshire County Cup Final for the second successive season between the club's under-16s and under-15s.
Both teams had knocked out the other two strongest clubs en route to the final and although the under-16s were favourites, the outcome was by no means a foregone conclusion.
The early exchanges were even and the 16s took the lead midway through the first half when Mirella Tambini superbly beat the onrushing goalkeeper to a bouncing ball and was able to generate sufficient strength in her header to score from the edge of the area.
There was little by way of goalmouth action and real scoring opportunities in the remainder of the half as both defences came out on top with Laura McGarry starring for the 15s.
The second half saw the 15s rally and almost equalise on three separate occasions. Fortunately, the 16s goalkeeper Hollie Staples was equal to all three efforts and kept her side in the lead with some fine saves.
Having weathered the storm, the 16s stormed back and a dipping shot from Maisie Wyatt bounced off the underside of the bar and away to safety.
During the same spell of pressure, Holly Sheridan clinched the tie with two further goals to make it 3-0. The first was an ambitous looping effort which dropped just inside the angle of the post and bar and her second was a neat near post finish, sweeping in a low cross.
Not to be deterred, the 15s came bouncing back and after a couple of efforts had been blocked, Yasmine Jones dragged the ball out from under her feet to lift the ball into the corner of the net to provide a well deserved consolation.
