Colchester United Ladies FC are looking ahead to the 2010-11 season with confidence following a successful first season with Director of Football Kevin Anderson at the helm. The First Team has retained its place in the Southern Division of the FA Tesco Women's Premier League with a mid-table finish as well as recapturing the Essex County Cup, whilst the Reserve squad were runners up in the FAWPL Reserve Southern Division Two. It was also a banner year for the club's Academy side based at Thurstable School in Tiptree, Essex. Competing for the first time in the British Colleges Elite League, the team finished second in the Southern section, qualifying for the national play-offs. After disposing of Northern champions Runshaw College 9-1 in the semi finals, Colchester narrowly missed out on a national title after a penalty shootout with Chelsea Ladies Academy following a 4-4 draw after extra time at Doncaster Rovers' Keepmoat Stadium. Now the Colchester United Female Football Programme hopes to build on that notable progress when they stage trials at the various age groups within the set up. The senior set up has formed an exciting partnership with Fitness First and personal training expert David Bond to provide strength and conditioning programmes for First Team and Reserves players. This will form part of an extensive physical well being programme along with expert injury diagnosis, rehab and prevention designed to give the teams a significant physical edge over the upcoming campaign. Three weekly training sessions at Fitness First and the club's superb training facility at Shrub End Community & Sports Centre along with the full time management of Anderson and assistant David Coyle, both working towards their UEFA A licences, mean that Colchester United is able to offer a highly professional and comprehensive training, development and player care environment. Two open training sessions have been lined-up for experienced players interested in joining the club's First Team or Reserve squads on Sunday 20th and 27th June from 12pm-2pm at Shrub End Community & Sports Centre, Boadicea Way, Colchester, Essex CO2 9BG, with pre-season training commencing Monday 12th July. Players wishing to attend these sessions or pre-season training should contact Kevin at kanderson@cucst.org.uk or call (07809) 195001. The Academy programme is also on the lookout for players between the ages of 16 and 19 who would like to combine full time study with an elite football programme and interested parties should contact Academy Manager David Coyle at dcoyle@cucst.org.uk or (07872) 542300. For younger players, trials for the renowned Girls Centre of Excellence programme will be held at Shrub End Community & Sports Centre on Saturday 12th June from 10am-2pm for its Under-10, Under-12, Under-14 and Under-16 squads. Players in the Under-8 age group are also being encouraged to attend for the first time this year with a view to participating in a development squad. The trials will involve technical training, fitness testing and matches prior to the 'invitation-only' trials the following Saturday 19th June. Players wishing to trial for the Centre of Excellence are asked to pre-register and a form can be downloaded from the Colchester United Community Sports trust website at www.cucst.org.uk.
