England had to settle for the runners-up spot in their UEFA Under-19 Championships group after their final game ended in a 2-1 defeat to Germany. The result means that Mo Marley's side will have to play Holland in the semi finals on Wednesday after the Dutch topped Group B with a 100% record. The Germans took a 12th minute lead through Annika Doppler and Turid Knaak doubled their advantage, before Lauren Bruton renewed English hopes by pulling a goal back in first half injury time. After the break. injuries reduced Germany to ten players but England could not find a breakthrough, going closest when Isobel Christiansen struck the post from a free kick. Scotland meanwhile ensured they went home with a point under their belts as they came from two goals behind to earn a 3-3 draw with Italy. Barbara Bonansea's early goal was cancelled out by a neat finish from Sarah Ewens but Italy raced into a 3-1 lead at the interval with further strikes from Michela Franco and Francesca Vitale.
