Andy Marshall made a guest appearance at a football training session in Sawtry on Monday.
Andy was on hand to give a basic goalkeeping session to the girls who are currently training to join Sawtry Colts FC's Under-9 girls team in September.
Andy has enjoyed a long and very successful professional playing career, having made nearly 400 professional first team appearances during his career with Norwich City, Ipswich Town, Coventry City, Millwall and Aston Villa.
In March this year, Andy established Sells Goalkeeping Academy and one of his key objectives is to get more girls playing football and to help establish an effective, professional goalkeeper coaching provision for female players.
While at the session, Andy spoke about his ambitions within the female game: "Having started out as a Sawtry player it is great to be able to give something back. It's really encouraging to see so many young girls giving football a try. Providing a high quality goalkeeper coaching service to the female game is one of my highest priorities and I am hopeful of establishing some female-only academies in the next 12 months."
Training continues for the girls every Monday evening from now until schools break for the summer and any girls interested in coming along to learn some basic skills would be made most welcome.
Steve Purnell from Sawtry Colts commented: "We have been working continually on developing football for younger age groups of girls over the past two years and it is great somebody like Andy takes the time to come along and encourage these girls to participate in the game."
