Hope Powell declared herself satisfied following England's 3-0 victory over Turkey, which confirmed their place in the World Cup play-offs.
"We got the job done," she said. "Sometimes it's hard to play against that kind of opposition, and that is no disrespect to Turkey, but we persevered and created a lot of chances. Unfortunately their keeper had a blinder and made some fantastic saves but the most important thing was the three points and we are now in the play-offs.
"You do get frustrated when you create so many chances, you want to try something different. We had so many chances to score, they didn't go in but they persevered with it.
"The squad has never been as competitive as this in all the years I have been in charge. Competition for places is fierce, which can only be good."
Hope paid tribute to Rachel Yankey on her achievement of reaching 100 caps, having given her the captaincy for the match. "It's a fantastic achievement," she said, "100 caps, captain, goal, Player of the Match - can't be bad.
"I think there is more to come from Rachel, hopefully this will spur her on. She's been around a long time, so for her it's a great milestone."
Hope was also delighted to see Ellen White continue a promising start to her international career, coming off the bench to score her third goal in five appearances. "It was a very similar goal to her debut (against Austria)," she said. "Ellen gives us a different option and has a natural eye for goal, which is great for us."
