Wales went down to a 5-1 defeat at the hands of Sweden in their final World Cup qualifying group match in Vaxjo, despite putting up a brave fight. Terry Boyle was forced into making one change from the side which demolished Azerbaijan on Saturday, Kylie Davies making her first start in place of the unavailable Erin Vaughan. In front of a crowd of 2,091, the home side took a 12th minute lead with a goal from Lotte Schelin. On the stroke of half time, Sweden struck a huge blow when Josefine Oqvist scored to send them into the interval two goals ahead. After the break, Oqvist went on to complete a hat-trick with strikes either side of one from Schelin, who netted her second. Wales did not give up and scored a deserved consolation goal with nine minutes remaining, Gwennan Harries netting her fourth in two matches and 12th in total. Michelle Green was introduced as a second half substitute, making the midfielder only the fourth player to be capped 50 times for Wales.
