Nottingham Forest have taken up the pace at the top of the National Division following their
2-1 victory over Millwall Lionesses.
After the first half ended goalless, Emma Whitter gave Millwall the lead just before the hour mark but Forest hit back to level the scores through Lyndsey Cunningham and captain Beth Bailey grabbed the winner following a goalmouth scramble.
Forest therefore have a two point lead in what is already shaping up to be a very tight division.
Blackburn Rovers lie in second place after they won 2-1 away to newly promoted Reading FC Women. Both of Rovers' goals came early, Nicole Emmanuel and Rhiannon Roberts putting them two ahead inside the opening seventeen minutes, with Natasha Caswell's late penalty ensuring an uncomfortable finish for Adam Lakeland's side.
Leeds Utd remain unbeaten in third place as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Barnet, who registered their first point of the season. Holly Sandow kept up her excellent start to the new campaign by giving the Bees a fourth minute lead but Leeds battled back to earn a share of the spoils, Chloe Foster netting an equaliser early in the second half.
Watford and Sunderland also finished level at 1-1 but Watford will have been the happier of the two sides after playing nearly an hour with ten players. Sarah Wiltshire put Watford in front with Kelly McDougall equalising from the penalty spot after keeper Lauren Davey was sent off for fouling Sophie Williams (see match report).
