Manchester City have forged ahead at the top of the Northern Division following a hard earned 2-1 win away to Leicester City. After having been beaten by Leicester in the Premier League Cup the previous Sunday, Man City went ahead midway through the first half via a Lindsay Savage penalty. Savage headed in a second with fifteen minutes remaining to give her side the points, despite Maz Gauntlett giving Leicester a late lifeline. Aston Villa sit in second place, three points off the pace, after they opened up their campaign with a 3-1 victory at Curzon Ashton. Carly Davies scored twice and Natalie Gibson the other for Villa, Curzon's consolation coming from Issy Hayes. Coventry City picked up their first win back in the Premier League in some style, beating Rochdale 5-2. Jade Formaston's early goal for Coventry was cancelled out by Keeleigh Savage but Milly Durrant and Kirsty Robson sent the Sky Blues two goals clear. Chantelle Parry gave Dale renewed hope but Coventry went on to seal the points with further strikes from Christina Torkildsen and Leanne McKenna. There were also plenty of goals on offer at Preston North End where the home side shared a 3-3 draw with Leeds City Vixens. Laura Walker, Chantelle O'Hara and Vicky Charnley were all on the scoresheet for Preston, while Leeds' goals came from Meganne Paul, Sarah Dobby and Stacey Daniel. The other match between Newcastle Utd and Derby County had to be abandoned on the hour mark due to a serious knee injury sustained by a Newcastle player.
