Keynsham set early pace
 Women's Football News 9 Sep 2010

Keynsham set early pace - 9 Sep 2010 - Women's Football NewsKeynsham Town are setting the pace in the Southern Division following their 3-1 local derby victory over Yeovil Town.

Naomi Clipston scored twice and Hari Sabic added the other from the penalty spot to give Keynsham the points while Yeovil, who were making their debut in the league, scored a consolation through a Jemma Tewkesbury penalty. Both sides could have added to their score during the second half of an enthralling derby.

West Ham Utd are the other team with maximum points from the opening two games as they also won a local derby, 1-0 against Queen's Park Rangers. Nina Downham scored the only goal of the game for the Hammers in the third minute.

Portsmouth and Gillingham occupy the next two places after they battled out a 2-2 draw. In a well contested game, the Gills twice took the lead with goals from Ashlee Hincks and Natalie Crinean with Pompey hitting back on each occasion, replying through Shelly Cox - direct from a corner - and a 25-yard volley from Molly Clark.

Colchester Utd notched up their first victory of the season, 3-1 away to Brighton & Hove Albion. After the first half ended goalless, Helen Bass converted a Hayley West cross to put the U's in front before West herself added the second and Emily Heaslip also fired home from 20 yards, before Sara Hinton scored a late consolation for the Seagulls.

Charlton Athletic were another team to win for the first time, 2-0 against Cardiff City who were playing their first game of the season. Gemma Bryan gave the Addicks an early lead from the penalty spot and Kim Dixson netted the second on the stroke of half time. However the game was marred by an injury to Charlton midfielder Charley Clifford who was taken to hospital following a clash of heads.
