Champions Swansea City began the defence of their title in the Welsh Premier Women's League on Sunday with a hard earned 4-3 victory against UWIC.
Alison Vickers scored a late winner for the Swans to add to earlier strikes from Jodie Passmore, Ria Hughes and Laura May-Walkley. However it is Caerphilly Castle who are the opening day leaders in the Southern Conference after they won 3-0 away to Trefelin Ladies in the battle between two teams who are making their debuts in the league this season.
In the Northern Conference, it is Wrexham who sit on top of the fledgling table as they opened up by beating Llanidloes 3-1. They have a two point lead as the other game in the table between newcomers Llandudno Junction and Aberystwyth Town finished goalless. However a well contested game was marred as Aberystwyth midfielder Leanne Bray sustained a broken ankle and Llandudno's Holly Groves also suffered a torn ligament injury.
The league resumes with the second round of fixtures in two weeks time.
