Sunderland took over at the top of the National Division with a 4-1 victory over previous leaders Blackburn Rovers.
Sophie Williams gave Sunderland the lead just after the half hour and Kelly McDougall added a second a minute after the interval. Danielle Sheen kept up her good goalscoring form to pull a goal back for Rovers but Williams immediately restored the two-goal advantage and McDougall also completed her brace with nine minutes remaining to round off a good win for the Wearsiders.
Nottingham Forest were unable to join the top two on points as they went down to a 2-0 defeat away to Reading FC Women. Natasha Caswell put Reading in front five minutes before half time and Linda Hirons sealed the points on the hour mark (see match report).
All three of the remaining unbeaten records were ended on Sunday - as well as Blackburn and Forest, Watford also lost for the first time, 2-1 at home to Millwall Lionesses. Lizzie Edwards opened the scoring for Millwall midway through the first half, a lead which lasted only three minutes before Sarah Wiltshire levelled the scores. The game was settled in the 66th minute, Ann Marie Heatherson scoring the winner for the Lionesses when slotting home the rebound after her penalty had been saved by Chloe Crook.
