Paul jumps for charity
 Women's Football News 25 Jan 2011

Paul jumps for charity - 25 Jan 2011 - Women's Football NewsPaul Cudby, Coventry City Ladies FC First Team Manager, completed a tandem parachute jump and has so far raised an incredible £455 for Surrey based charity CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young).

Paul jumped from 12,000 feet in chilly conditions at Hinton in the hedges airfield, and it was the first time that he had made a parachute jump. Paul was motivated to jump for the charity, saying: "It's a charity that does incredible work providing early detection of cardiac problems in young people, something that, if gone undetected, can sometimes have fatal consequences. A neighbour of mine, Sam Turpie, tragically passed playing football in the summer of 2007, and this young man helped me in my early coaching career gain experience."

2010 marked the 15th anniversary of CRY. The charity was originally established in 1995 to raise awareness of sudden cardiac death, a silent killer that claims the lives of at least 12 apparently "fit and healthy" young people (35 and under) every week. However, experts at CRY believe this figure is a conservative estimate and just "the tip of the iceberg" with many cases of young, sudden death continuing to be wrongly recorded as asthma, epilepsy, drowning or "accidental".

Alison Cox MBE, CRY Founder and Chief Executive adds: "Over the last 15 years, hundreds of people of all ages have given up their time and energy - and one to enormous lengths - to help raise funds for CRY. We have seen our charity gradually grow and make a real impact as we strive to raise awareness of young sudden cardiac death and to support the families and friends who continue to be affected by these tragic and often undiagnosed heart conditions."

Paul has set up a website which will be open until Sunday 30th January for anyone wishing to make a donation at www.justgiving.com/cclfcpaul.
