Gillingham v Reading FC Women
 Women's Football News 5 Feb 2011

F.A.Women's Cup - Road to the Final
Gillingham saw off the challenge of Ebbsfleet Utd with a 6-0 victory, Leah Jones bagging a hat-trick with Danni Farmer, Laura Jeffery and Natalie Crinean also finding the net to see the Gills past their Kent rivals and earn themselves a plum Third Round home tie against Reading FC Women.

In May 2006, Reading Football Club announced the launch of its first ever women's football team, which came after three years of planning and development with the Girls Centre of Excellence which had already generated a number of international youth players and more coming through the ranks, but the club had no senior outlet until the club was formed. They quickly worked their way up the leagues by winning the Southern Region League title and then the South West Combination in 2007-08, reaching the Premier League.

A geographical quirk saw them promoted into the Northern Division where, despite long journeys and high travelling costs, they finished in a creditable sixth place. They moved across to the Southern Division last season and finished in second place, winning promotion to the National Division this season. After taking a short time to adjust to the new level, Reading hit great form and are currently lying in second place in the table.

Manager Frank Rodriguez has steered the club through the leagues to their present position and he is assisted by Phil Cousins. Kelly Chambers - who is also Reading FC's Girls and Women's Development Officer - is club captain. Mikaela Howell currently tops the scoring charts while former England Under-19 international Natasha Caswell is having a good season. The squad now boasts three Irish internationals in Harriett Scott, Grace Moloney and Stacie Donnelly.

The match takes place at Lordswood FC and a well fought game is anticipated. Reading will start the game as favourites but, with many shocks having occurred in the Cup this season, rule Gillingham out at your peril.
