Colchester's quest for five trophies
 Women's Football News 14 Apr 2011

Colchester's quest for five trophies - 14 Apr 2011 - Women's Football NewsColchester United Female Academy's season continues to impress after they emphatically secured the British Colleges Elite League Eastern Division title with a 7-1 thumping of Chelsea Ladies' Guildford College Academy.

Hannah Gowland, with four, Lily Mellors, Maegen Doyle and Emily Heaslip were on target for the young U's based at Thurstable School in Tiptree.

Academy Manager David Coyle recognized the outstanding achievement of his young charges, commenting: "To win a league title in a division with Arsenal and Chelsea, not to mention some other quality programmes, is a tremendous achievement at any level in women's football. Over 14 games the team has proved themselves the best in what in my opinion is the toughest Under-19 female league in the country.

"We don't have the name that some of the other programmes have in terms of attracting the top players but the ones we do get along with our many home grown players we get the best out of and that has certainly been the case this season."

Colchester remain on course for an unbelievable domestic 'quintuple' as having already been crowned ESFA Under-18 Girls National Champions, they will now enter the BCS Elite League play-offs taking on Birmingham Met College in the semi finals on April 27th and also have a date with Arsenal Ladies Oaklands College Academy in the BCS National Cup Final on May 11th. The team will then look to wrap up their season by retaining their Essex Colleges title before heading to Barcelona, Spain to defend their Copa Catalunya crown in July.

Applications to be part of the highly successful Colchester United Female Academy, run in partnership with Thurstable School and Colchester United Community Sports Trust, are now being taken for the 2011-12 season. Any young female players aged 16-18 with a good playing background looking to combine an elite level football programme with full time academic study are encouraged to contact Academy Manager David Coyle on (07872) 542300 or by e-mail at dcoyle@cucst.org.uk to request an information pack.
