Day of home comforts - 2 May 2011 - Women's Football NewsOn a day which rained goals for the home teams in the Scottish Women's Premier League, Glasgow City held on to the leadership with an 8-1 victory over local rivals Rangers.
 
Emma Fernon was the unlikely goal hero for City, scoring her first ever hat-trick whilst Christie Murray weighed in with a double. Kat Lindner, Leanne Ross and Lisa Evans were also on target with Lucy Clark scoring Rangers' consolation.
 
Hibernian continue to keep pace with City as they also recorded their fifth straight win, scoring six without reply against FC Kilmarnock. Lisa Robertson bagged a double for Hibs along with Rebecca Dempster, Hayley Cunningham, Leanne Crichton and an own goal.
 
Forfar Farmington were unable to maintain their winning start though and they were beaten for the first time, 4-3 by Spartans. Sarah Ewens put Spartans in front midway through the first half and a Hayley Lauder cross deflected in off a Forfar defender for the second, ahead of the break. Julia Scott pulled one back for Forfar after the restart but Lauder restored the two-goal advantage with a fine individual goal. Emma McCulley headed Forfar back into the game, before Trisha McLaughlin netted Spartans' fourth. Fay Hughes reduced the arrears in injury time but Spartans saw the game out to keep up their unbeaten start.
 
Susan Fairlie bagged a hat-trick for Celtic who moved into fourth place with an 8-0 victory over Falkirk. Suzanne Grant weighed in with a double and Celtic's tally was completed by Fiona Brown, Kirsten McGuire and Pauline Hamill.
 
Hamilton Academicals ran out 5-1 winners against Inverness City, meaning that the five home teams managed a total of 31 goals between them. Helen Templeton netted twice and she was joined on the scoresheet by Cheryl McCulloch, Toni Mason and Ashley McDonald, with Hannah Markley replying for Inverness.
