Loughborough Foxes have just completed another fantastic season as they captured the East Midlands League Premier Division title.
Since being relegated from the MIdland Combination just over a year ago, the Foxes have regrouped and appointed Club Secretary and Loughborough College Football Development Centre Coordinator, Steve Wilkinson, as new Coach.
The team started the season well, beating local rivals Shepshed Dynamo and championship contenders Friar Lane & Epworth in the first week of the season and from then on never looked back. They reached the Second Round of the FA Women's Cup, the County Cup semi finals (losing 2-0 to eventual winners Leicester City Women) and then after reaching the League Cup Final, had the chance of doing a league and cup double. However, despite dominating for most of the game, Foxes lost out to Mansfield Town on penalties.
The team lost only twice in the league campaign and amassed 80 goals from 20 league games as they picked up the title for the second time in three years. As in all seasons, there were some tricky times but the team spirit, focus and motivation of everyone associated with the club saw the team through to success in the end.
In the last two weeks, the Foxes have added the Leicestershire Women's Futsal Cup to the list of achievements for 2011 and and now go to Birmingham in July for the national Futsal Cup competition.
Coach Steve Wilkinson has been particularly impressed with the team spirit, quality of football and improved disciplinary record of his team as well as the way new players have gelled with the previous season's players. Steve is hopeful that a few new additions to his squad will help maintain the Foxes' place in the Midland Combination for the coming season and into the future.
