Four first half goals helped Hibernian on their way to a 5-2 victory over Spartans in the Scottish Women's Premier League Cup Final at Alloa.

It was Spartans who got off to a good start by taking a third minute lead as Hayley Lauder beat Shannon Lynn with a looping header. However Hibs hit back quickly and almost levelled when Debbie McWhinnie's shot was touched onto the bar by Spartans keeper Jo Hutcheson.

Midway through the first half, Jenna Ross levelled the scores with a diving header from Claire Emslie's cross and Hibs quickly added two more goals, Hollie Thomson and Leanne Crichton both netting with close range headers from centres by McWhinnie. The fourth goal came to complete a nine-minute spell, Ross finishing off after being set up by McWhinnie.

After the break, McWhinnie was denied a second goal when Hutcheson pulled off a fine save from her free kick and Spartans gave themselves hope as a powerful strike from Kirsty McLaughlin reduced the arrears with just over twenty minutes left.

Any hopes of a Spartans fightback were crushed though when McWhinnie broke through to find the net via a deflection and put the game beyond their local rivals.

Hibs therefore add to the Premier League Cup to the Unite Scottish Cup they won last year and they also jointly lead the SWPL table along with Glasgow City.
