Liverpool 0 Bristol Academy 2 (Fishlock pen 23,71)
Jessica Fishlock hit a brace as Bristol Academy put their Birmingham heartache behind them to beat bottom club Liverpool.
The Vixens had come within a whisker of pulling off a shock victory against Birmingham in midweek only for the leaders to score twice in the final three minutes to leave them disappointed.
But the impressive Fishlock struck in each half, including one from the penalty, to hand the visitors a deserved three points.
Struggling Liverpool, still without a win in the WSL, had not scored in their last five league games but they nearly made a dream start inside a minute when Nicola Twohig's header flew the wrong side of post from Michelle Evans' corner.
Helen Bleazard then burst through for Bristol but Emma Jones, playing against her former club after joining the Reds during the summer break, made a timely interception.
Fishlock thought she had given the Vixens the lead on 22 minutes but her effort was disallowed for a push by team mate Ann Marie Heatherson in the build-up.
It was then Liverpool's turn to go close when Sam Chappell's deep cross looked to have caught out Siobhan Chamberlain but the goalkeeper recovered well to tip it onto the post.
But the deadlock was broken on 23 minutes when Katie Brusell tripped Fishlock inside the penalty area and the striker picked herself up to convert from the spot.
The hosts pushed for an equaliser and nearly found one on the stroke of half time when, following some neat interplay on the edge of the Bristol box, Gemma Watson let fly but her 20-yard drive flashed wide.
Fishlock was desperately unlucky not to grab a second when she volleyed against the post two minutes after the restart.
But the Vixens wrapped up only their second win of the campaign when Fishlock swept home Dutch international Anouk Hoogendijk's clever pull back on 71 minutes.
Only a goal line clearance from Kelly Jones denied the forward a hat-trick her superb display deserved while Hoogendijk rattled the crossbar late on.
