Leaders held by Lincoln
 Women's Football News 31 Jul 2011
Lincoln Ladies 1 (Little 11) Birmingham City 1 (Williams pen 49)
FA WSL leaders Birmingham were held to a draw by Lincoln in a fiery affair which saw both teams reduced to ten players.
Leanda Little and Heather Scheuber were dismissed in the game as Birmingham managed to hold on to their unbeaten tag and extend their lead at the top to five points.
Lincoln got off to a great start and on 11 minutes, Little put the hosts in front with a header at the far post.
Things had been a bit over physical in the first half and Mr Burridge was in danger of losing it until he produced a couple of yellow cards towards half-time.
Lincoln thoroughly deserved their half time lead. Apart from the early goal, Lucy Staniforth saw her toe poke come back of Birmingham keeper Leanne Hall's body and seconds later, Sue Smith forced Hall into another save with a shot from the left.
Leading scorer Rachel Williams levelled it for Birmingham four minutes into the second half after her shot had been handled in the penalty area.
With many expecting the unbeaten league leaders to step it up after that, Lincoln continued to hold their own. The physical stuff, whilst not quite as bad as the first half, continued though and Little was sent off for a second bookable offence in the 65th minute.
Birmingham substitute Heather Scheuber, on for Stef Curtis at half time, was also dismissed after picking up two bookings inside 32 minutes of that substitution, but if they can put in more performances like this they will definitely take plenty of points in the remaining matches.
So Birmingham held on to their unbeaten tag by the skin of their teeth and Lincoln will come away from the game pleased at taking a point off the leaders.
Lincoln Ladies: Nicola Hobbs, Mel Sutcliffe, Rachel Daly, Sophie Bradley, Casey Stoney, Remi Allen, Megan Harris (sub Bonnie Horwood 81mins), Lucy Staniforth (sub Sophie Barker 90mins), Sue Smith (sub Carla Cantrell 75mins), Jess Clarke, Leandra Little.

Birmingham City: Leanne Hall, Chelsea Weston, Kerys Harrop, Sally Stanton, Laura Bassett, Dunia Susi, Rachel Williams (sub Jess Wright 89mins), Stef Curtis (sub Heather Scheuber 45mins), Jo Potter, Emily Westwood, Marie Ballard.
