Foxes beat Vixens to go top
 Women's Football News 28 Aug 2011

Leicester City swept to the top of the Northern Division by running out 6-0 winners over Leeds City Vixens.

Goals in the first half by Shona Franklin and Natalie Reay paved the way for the Foxes who started the second half in the same vein with Franklin hitting home her second from 20 yards out in the 50th minute. Grace Teah hit a stunning strike from 35 yards before debutants Natasha Hughes and Issy Hayes both scored in the 75th minute and 86th minute to complete the tally despite Vixens goalkeeper Debbie Biggins performing heroics between the posts.

Rochdale are the other team with maximum points from the opening two games after they defeated Manchester City 1-0. Patrice Shirley scored the only goal of the game nine minutes into the second half to ensure that Dale kept up their winning start to the season.

Sporting Club Albion and Blackburn Rovers occupy the next two places after they battled out a 1-1 draw in Lancashire. Keeleigh Savage gave Blackburn the lead shortly before half time, with Albion battling back to earn a share of the spoils through Emily Owen with six minutes remaining.

Derby County got off the mark with a 3-1 success away to Rotherham Utd. Rebecca Bryan and Jo Scully gave Derby a two-goal lead at the break which was reduced by Natalie Shaw midway through the second half. Lauren Steadman clinched the points for the visitors with their third goal, nine minutes from time.

Preston North End bounced back from an early setback to win 2-1 at Sheffield FC. Jodie Michalska put Sheffield ahead in the seventh minute with Chloe Cowart equalising just after the half hour. Vicky Westermann settled matters on 62 minutes to give Preston their first win of the new campaign.
