Becky pegs back former club - 29 Aug 2011 - Women's Football NewsDoncaster Rovers Belles 2 (Sjoman 88, Hall 90)
Birmingham City 2 (Westwood 8, Cox og 50)

Birmingham City's brave fight for the inaugural FA WSL title ended with a 2-2 draw at the Keepmoat Stadium.

The Blues, needing a victory to stand any chance of being crowned Champions, were in control when a Shelly Cox own goal added to Emily Westwood's early strike but Kylla Sjoman and former Birmingham winger Becky Hall scored in the last two minutes for the Belles to escape with a point.

Birmingham threatened to score inside the opening minute of the match when Westwood's cross was met by Dunia Susi, who put her first time effort wide. The Belles also went close to scoring early on when Vicky Exley's free kick was well saved by Marie Hourihan, diving to her right.

Westwood opened the scoring in the eighth minute, getting on the end of a low cross from Karen Carney after finding herself unmarked in the area.

David Parker's side went on to dominate the rest of the half and were unlucky no to convert their chances. Jo Potter's drive was saved by Mary Earps and the Belles keeper also prevented Williams. Chelsea Weston then put an effort wide and Potter's inswinging corner hit the bar.

After Sally Stanton headed wide, Birmingham increased their lead in the 50th minute when the unfortunate Cox turned the ball into her own net when attempting to clear Potter's free kick.

Carney put a header off target and Westwood's long range effort was narrowly wide as the visitors pressed for a third goal. Jade Moore then went even closer to scoring with a shot which struck the bar.

Sjoman then pulled a goal back for the Belles with a deflected free kick and then with 90 minutes on the clock, Hall's superbly flighted free kick beat Hourihan for the equaliser.
