Katie maintains Leicester's start
 Women's Football News 6 Sep 2011
Leicester City continue to set the early pace in the Northern Division following their 2-1 win away to Manchester City.
Issy Hayes slotted home a 45th minute penalty after Shona Franklin was bundled down in the box to give the visitors a half time lead. Krystle Johnston levelled the scores when she drilled home in the 54th minute but winger Katie Lowder curled home a 25-yard effort in the 71st minute to give the Foxes the points.
Blackburn Rovers moved into second, thanks to a 4-1 victory over previously unbeaten Rochdale. After the first half ended goalless, Coral O'Keefe put Dale in front but substitute Levi Penny netted twice, with Danielle Sheen and Charlotte Heyes adding the others, to turn the match firmly in Blackburn's favour.
Derby County notched up their second win in a row, scoring seven without reply past Leeds City Vixens. Derby led at half time through a Cara Newton goal and she scored her second after the break, moments after Lauren Steadman had also found the net. Sam Griffiths then got on the scoresheet and Farrah Walker extended their lead on the hour. Newton completed her hat-trick with seven minutes remaining and Steadman rounded off the scoring with her second.
Sheffield FC bounced back from their defeat the previous Sunday to run out 4-0 winners away to fellow newly promoted side Sporting Club Albion. All of the goals came in the first half, Carla Ward opening the scoring via a seventh minute penalty before Steph Spence and Ellie Gilliatt netted in a three minute spell, with Jodie Michalska adding the fourth shortly before half time.
Preston North End also made it two wins on the trot when they defeated Rotherham Utd 1-0. A close match was settled in the 64th minute when Sam Cadwallader netted the only goal of the game.
