Emphatic opening win for Scotland
 Women's Football News 17 Sep 2011
Scotland Under-19s kicked off the 2011-12 Euro qualifiers in some style with an emphatic 9-0 win over Faroe Islands in Helsinki.
Shelley Kerr's side dominated the Group Seven match from the outset with Lana Clelland, who bagged a hat-trick, and Claire Emslie looking dangerous on the wings.
Scotland opened the scoring on 12 minutes when Jennifer Callaghan got on the end of a Clelland cut back to coolly slot her shot into the corner of the net.
It was two five minutes later when captain Eilish McSorley sent an inch-perfect pass out of defence for Emslie, who raced through the Faroese defence, setting up Rebecca Zoltie to sidefoot into the net.
The third goal came from another McSorley long ball. This time it was Clelland who controlled the ball and turned to slot home.
Clelland grabbed her second and Scotland's fourth just after the half hour, racing through the midfield and beating a defender to lob Johansen in the Faroese goal.
McSorley got her name on the scoresheet as the first half drew to a close, powering a header into the bottom corner from a tight angle.
Scotland kept up the pressure in the second half, with Clelland wrapping up her hat-trick in the 49th minute. The midfielder played a one-two with Callaghan before curling a shot just under the bar from the edge of the box.
Kerr shuffled her pack with almost an hour gone as central midfielder Mairead Fulton came on for forward Callaghan, with Emily Thomson moving up front from the middle of the park.
Thomson quickly made her mark, getting on the end of a Clelland cross to tap in from close range. Some great link up play allowed Fulton to break through the Faroese defence, and she selflessly passed across the box to Heather Richards, who slotted in goal number eight.
Thomson bagged her second and Scotland's ninth in some style in the 81st minute, beating four defenders to fire in a powerful shot from the edge of the box.
Scotland now take on Belarus, who were beaten 1-0 by Finland in the other group game, on Monday afternoon.
Scotland Under-19: Lauren Sangster, Emma Brownlie (sub Kirstin McGuire 80mins), Chloe Craig, Eilish McSorley, Rebecca Zoltie, Lana Clelland (sub Amy Bulloch 68mins), Heather Richards, Emily Thomson, Claire Emslie, Kelly Clark, Jennifer Callaghan (sub Mairead Fulton 57mins). Subs not used: Hannah Reid, Stefanie Malcolm, Siobhan Hunter, Gillian Sloey.
