Wrexham produced arguably the best result of the day in the opening round of matches in the Welsh Premier Women's League when they defeated Caernarfon Town 4-2.
An own goal gave Wrexham an early lead and Lexi Musgrove added a second before Caernarfon, runners-up in each of the past two seasons, reduced the arrears on the stroke of half time through Katie Williams. Lowri Edwards restored the two-goal advantage on the hour and Musgrove netted her second to seal the win for Wrexham, with Williams pulling one back four minutes from time.
Aberystwyth Town took the points in the other Northern Conference match with a 3-2 win away to newly promoted Northop Hall. Stephanie Land and Mel Davies put Aber two ahead at the break but Northop fought back to level the scores within ten minutes of the restart through Ashleigh Foster and Cody Hughes. The game looked to be heading for a draw until Cat Davies popped up to grab an injury time winner for Aberystwyth.
In the Southern Conference, Caerphilly Castle opened up their campaign with a 2-1 victory at Trefelin. Rhiannon Taylor netted both goals for Caerphilly leading up to half time with Leanne Williams replying for the home side midway through the second half.
Newcastle Emlyn and UWIC battled out a 2-2 draw in the other game. After Laura Welsh had given the students a tenth minute lead, Marie Tilley levelled the scores shortly before half time. UWIC went back in front through Nadia Lawrence ten minutes after the restart but the home side fought back once more to earn themselves a point with a late leveller from Amanda John.
