Academy adventure ends

Voronezh won 5-3 on aggregate

Bristol Academy's Champions League dream is over after they were beaten 5-3 on aggregate by Voronezh.
Academy put up a brave fight but will be left contemplating the string of chances missed in the first leg at Ashton Gate, which could have put an entirely different complexion on the tie.
Things did not start well for Academy when they fell behind in the fourteenth minute, Olesya Mashina putting Voronezh ahead from the penalty spot.
However just before the half hour, they got the away goal they badly needed as Ann Marie Heatherson levelled the scores. Parity lasted for just three minutes though as Mashina netted her second to give the Russian side the advantage again.
Midway through the second half, Voronezh took a firm grip on the tie when Veronica Boquete made it 3-1 and things were put beyond any further doubt three minutes from time as Pamela Conti netted the fourth.
Substitute Ellie Curson netted her first senior goal deep into injury time to make the scoreline more respectable for Academy but any further hopes of a comeback were no longer possible.
