Wales are out of the UEFA Under-17 Championships after they were beaten 5-0 by France in their final qualifying group game.
A win would have seen them go through to the next phase, due to hosts Moldova suffering a shock 1-0 defeat to the Faroe Islands in the other group game, but their remaining hopes were ended by their strong French opponents.
Wales were put on the back foot when Kadidiatou Diani put France ahead in the third minute and they found themselves three down by the midway point in the first half, Pauline Cousin and Lea Declercq also finding the net.
Cousin netted her second in the opening minute of the second half and Sandie Toletti rounded off the scoring just before the hour mark.
Moldova's defeat means that Wales finish up in second place in the group with three points from their three matches.
