Glasgow City's tie going live - 31 Oct 2011 - Women's Football NewsScottish Champions Glasgow City head out to Germany today on the first flight to Berlin to take on German Champions Turbine Potsdam in the last 16 of the UEFA Women's Champions League. 
 
The City team will check in at 7.30am at Glasgow Airport in preparation for the biggest match of their club's history. Not only are City the first Scottish women's team ever to get this far in Europe's most elite club competition, but they will also become the first Scottish side to have their UEFA Women's Champions League match broadcast live on TV with BBC Alba and Eurosport showing the match.
 
Eurosport will transmit the crucial match live in Germany and Asia, whilst BBC ALBA hold the exclusive rights for the UK.
 
Alan Esslemont, head of content at BBC ALBA said: "Glasgow City has enjoyed tremendous success in domestic and European competitions over the past few years and it is important that women's football gains the recognition that it rightly deserves.
 
"We pride ourselves in offering a prestigious sports package and are delighted to be including live coverage of this crucial clash allowing the large following of Scottish women's football to enjoy both home and away games on BBC ALBA."
 
City's Club Manager, Laura Montgomery added: "It is fantastic for Glasgow City and the game in general to have such an important match live on TV. This is a momentous occasion for everyone involved and it is testament to BBC ALBA that they are once more backing women's football.
 
"We are treading new ground in reaching the last sixteen and it is a proud moment for everyone at the club to know that our historic moment is being broadcast live in our home nation."
 
The match kicks off on Wednesday 2nd November at 4pm UK time.
 
BBC ALBA is available on the following platforms:

- Virgin Media channel 188
- Sky channel 168
- Freesat channel 110
 
 
The return leg will be played on Thursday 10th November at Petershill Park, Glasgow, kick off 6.05pm. Tickets are priced £5 adults, £2 kids and are available from Greaves Sports retail outlets, Petershill Park and via www.tickets-scotland.com.
