Leicester City continue to lead the way in the Northern Division after a day when all of the top three teams recorded victories.
Leicester had to work hard for their 3-0 win against a resolute Leeds City Vixens, all the goals coming in the first period. Natalie Reay hit a powerful 30-yard strike in the 21st minute from an Issy Hayes through ball. Shona Franklin added number two from a Reay pass, then a minute before the interval Franklin turned provider after a jinking run to get Hayes in to fire home.
Franklin hit the home side's upright early in the second period but the Vixens stood firm with Sonia Holland in fine form between the sticks for them.
Sporting Club Albion made sure of keeping pace with Leicester by beating Blackburn Rovers 3-1. Robyn James, Kelly Darby and Emily Owen were on all target for Albion while Rovers' consolation came from Danielle Cox.
Two of the early contenders met each other at Preston North End and it was visitors Sheffield FC who went on to record a 4-2 victory thanks to second half goals from Jodie Michalska and Lauren Davids. Lisa Giampalma and Michalska had earlier netted for Sheffield while Preston's goals came from Hannah Bailey and Vicky Westerman.
Manchester City continue to climb the table and are up to fourth place following their 2-0 win against Rochdale. Lindsay Savage gave City the lead from the penalty spot and Krystle Johnston sewed up the points with the second goal.
Rotherham Utd picked up a welcome point from a 2-2 draw with mid-table Derby County. Emily Jeffery and Hannah Ward were on target for Derby, with Rotherham replying through Grace John and Sophie Barker.
