Sheffield Utd Community v Middlesbrough

F.A.Women's Cup - Road to the Final
Sheffield Utd Community kept up their good Cup run with a 3-2 win away to Morecambe. Goals from Cheryl Mawhood, Tania Marsden and Jennifer Pearson saw the Blades go through to the First Round Proper where they now have a home tie with Middlesbrough.
Middlesbrough LFC are one of the oldest women's clubs in the country, having been established in 1976, and they have been playing at Northern Combination level or higher since the league's formation in 1998. In 2001-02, Middlesbrough carried off the league title and were promoted to the Northern Division of the Premier League, where they stayed for five years before being relegated back into the Combination.
Since returning to the league, they have reguarly been among the front runners and gone close to promotion on a number of occasions. Last season they finished in third place, missing out on a play-off place by just two points. This was despite not playing in the league for several weeks whilst undertaking a historic trip to North Korea, the links of which were forged by that country's stay in Middlesbrough during the 1966 World Cup.
This season they have found things a little tougher and are currently third from bottom in the table. The team is still managed by former England international Marrie Wieczorek and key players within the side include the likes of Sarah Manning, Lindsay Stephenson, Jess Close and leading scorer Rachel McKnight, who bagged a hat-trick in the previous round as 'Boro defeated Whitley Bay 3-2.
The match will be played at Niagara Sports & Leisure in Sheffield and on this occasion, United will go into the match as underdogs due to Middlesbrough's higher league status but a close game in anticipated.
