F.A.Women's Cup - Road to the Final
Forest Green Rovers put an end to the Cup run of Bristol Ladies Union with a 6-2 victory, spearheaded by a hat-trick from Katie Cook. Natalie Holbrook, Paige Stewart and Charley Cooney added the other goals to take the Gloucestershire side into the First Round where they will play host to Weymouth.
Weymouth LFC was formed under its current structure in 2006-07 and won the Dorset League title at the first attempt, remaining undefeated all season. The following year they won the Dorset County Cup and finished runners-up in the league, gaining promotion to the South West League Division One South. They finished runners-up in their first season and won the Bristol Soccerworld Cup as well as retaining the County Cup, being promoted to the Premier Division where they have remained since.
Manager Tim Davis, assisted by Lee Johnson, has assembled a talented squad, consisting entirely of teenagers, which is captained by midfielder Rosie Sharpe. Philipa Holden is leading scorer and Emma Acott is another regular on the scoresheet, with other key players including the likes of Jess Turk, Eloise Adams and Zoe Acutt. So far the Terras have knocked out Salisbury City, Andover New Street and Southampton Women, who they beat 3-2 in the last round with goals from Emma Acott, Sophie Ramsbottom and Philipa Holden. The club would like to wish all the best to secretary Amanda Bray who is currently in hospital.
The tie takes place at Slimbridge and Forest Green will start the match as favourites but Weymouth will be aiming to repeat the performances of other teams from their division who have beaten South West Combination sides in the Cup this season.
