Denham looking to earn their spurs
 Women's Football News 6 Jan 2012
Denham Utd caused the surprise of the First Round in the F.A.Women's Cup when beating Norwich City 3-0 and they are in a good frame of mind for their Second Round tie against Tottenham Hotspur this week.
The London & South East League side have also eliminated Southampton Saints from this season's competition and are full of confidence ahead of this week's match against the Premier League outfit.
"We have now conquered two teams in the league above us - Southampton and Norwich - respectively, so we believe that we are no underdogs," says Denham defender Rachel Blackburn. "As a team we are thriving on our recent successes following inconsistent form in the league, we have a lot still to prove this season and are poised to continue in the FA Cup for as long as we can.
"We learnt a lot about ourselves in our last FA Cup tie and will take this forward into our next game. We've grown in confidence, are far more clinical in scoring and are showing more resilience in keeping possession of the ball. We are a physical team but fair in our approach, and we will not be bullied out of anything.
"We are aware that it will be a tough battle. Tottenham are placed in mid-table and have had many favourable results, however they are only within two places of QPR, who we narrowly lost to in the semi finals of the Middlesex County Cup last season.
"Our captain Jo Torr is currently injured (and sunning herself in Tenerife!) and will be sorely missed, however we pride ourselves in our unity and have adapted our formation to try and fill the void. Our manager, Terry Maton 'Life Coach Mentor', has prepared us thoroughly for the game. We have concentrated a lot on ball retention which we feel will give us the best chance against Tottenham."
Denham would like to express their gratitude to the ongoing commitment of Ray Stickley the club Chairman, Jo Currivan the club Secretary and Paulette Maton and Janet Blackburn, who wash the kits, do the food and first team paperwork and last but not least, Dan Fenn, otherwise known as 'Arg' as Coach.
