Sunderland opened up a lead of three points at the top of the National Division after they defeated Cardiff City 2-0.
In gusty conditions, the Wearsiders took the lead just after the half hour when Kelly McDougall's through ball released Beth Mead to score her 17th goal of the season. Cardiff goalkeeper Rhian Nokes pulled off a string of good saves to keep her side in the game but Steph Bannon sealed the points with ten minutes remaining when she netted direct from a 30-yard free kick.
Charlton Athletic and Barnet met in a clash between two sides in the running for a third place and it is the Addicks who stay two points ahead as the match finished goalless. Hannah Short went close for Barnet early on and Kit Graham had a goal disallowed at the other end whilst after the break, Gemma Bryan and Emma Beckett both struck the woodwork for Charlton as did Cheryl Williams for the Bees.
Watford's revival continued and their hopes of staying up still remain intact following their 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest. Megan Wynne put the Golden Girls ahead on the quarter hour and Sarah Wiltshire added the second before the break. Watford therefore go level on points with Forest but both teams are still four points adrift of safety with match starting to run out.
