Aberystwyth close gap on Wrexham
 Women's Football News 7 Feb 2012
Aberystwyth close gap on Wrexham - 7 Feb 2012 - Women's Football NewsAberystwyth Town consolidated their current second place in the Women's Welsh Premier League northern section with a 4-0 win over Northop Hall on Sunday.
Aber began strongly, Mel Davies and Cat Davies breaking through in the opening exchanges before Mel Davies made it 1-0, as she broke the Northop Hall defence down the right side before slotting it in the near post.
It was soon two as Mel Davies broke clear down the right again, before crossing for Cat Davies whose shot fell to Ffiona Evans to finish. Mel Davies followed shortly with her second and Aber's third, a shot from 12 yards making it 3-0 within 18 minutes.
Aber didn't let up with their advantage and continued to have chances, Sam Lumb having a free header from a corner which she couldn't keep down and Steph Land who forced a good save from Northop keeper Abbie Shore. An Aber free kick also called the Northop Hall keeper into action, Angharad James' shot from 25 yards carrying a lot of power and forcing another good save.
Northop's chances were few and far between but Laura Pennington did break through the Aber defence, however her weak shot was easily saved by Aber keeper Keryn Hawkins. Aber were soon back on top though, with Stacy Davies, Anna Evans and Mel Davies all testing the Northop goal before half time.
The second half began much the same as the first, a Mel Davies cross early on met by the head of Ffiona Evans who couldn't get it home. Aber pressed and pressed, and finally got their fourth after a free kick was not cleared properly from inside the area and the ball fell for Mel Davies who made no mistake to complete her hat-trick. Aber continued to dominate and had many more chances without scoring any more.

The final scoreline flattered no-one and the Aber ladies will be hoping to continue this form and hopefully push Wrexham all the way in the race for top spot in the Women's Welsh Premier Northern Conference.
