A new look Penzance Ladies team travelled to Trevenson on Sunday to play the first senior game for over two years and whilst they were heavily defeated, the team should be proud of their performance.
With four players becoming unavailable on the day, the young team travelled with a bare eleven players and yet for 20 minutes gave the home team all the trouble that they could handle, matching them in every area of the pitch.
As expected, the older team's strength and stamina eventually saw them take the lead, which they extended to 5-0 at the break, although the Penzance girls battled well and were denied time and again by the excellent Trevenson keeper and some last gasp defending.
For the first ten minutes of the second half, Penzance managed to repel the Trevenson attacks and mounted several promising attacks of their own. Sadly, with fifteen minutes remaining Penzance were reduced by injury to ten players. With the girls now very tired and up against lightning quick wingers, Trevenson were able to run in several late goals to give a very flattering final scoreline.
Next up for Penzance should be St Dominick away in a friendly on 15th April. If you want to play for Penzance Ladies, call Scott on (07708) 292347.
