England Colleges have retained the Anglo-Welsh Shield following a hard fought 5-4 aggregate victory over Wales Colleges.
The first leg, played at Solihull Moors FC, saw England trail at the break but Lyndsey Glover equalised with a cross-shot and further strikes from Emma Sherwood and Lucy Quinn ensured they took a 3-2 advantage into the return meeting.
Barry Town FC hosted the second leg and England struck first, Shannon Osman pulling the ball back for Quinn to score her second goal of the tie. Shortly before half time, Chelsea Flanagan extended the lead with a fine solo effort, beating two defenders before slotting home.
However in the second half, Wales came out as a different team and, roared on by the home crowd, netted twice to level the scores on the night and reduce the deficit to one goal overall.
A late goalmouth scramble almost led to a third Wales goal but England survived and held on to win the shield for the fourth year in a row, collected by captain Jess Round.
England squad: Beth Howard, Kelly Darby, Lucy Somes, Chelsea Flanagan, Jade Henry, Terri Trowbridge, Shannon Osman, Lucy Quinn, Jess Round, Emma Sherwood, Sophie Johnson, Hayley Grisdale, Ryah Vyse, Lyndsey Glover, Nikki Shirtcliffe, Siobhan Wilson, Issy Foster, Elizabeth Fraser, Charlotte Potts, Mercede Riolfo, Jess Tait, Rebekah Walker.
