Holders begin defence with win
 Women's Football News 19 Mar 2012
Continental Cup holders Arsenal started their defence of the trophy with a 3-0 win away to Liverpool.
Jennifer Beattie put the Gunners in front and they went on to clinch the game with further strikes from Steph Houghton and Ellen White.
The competition is being played in group format this year and in the other match in Group One, Birmingham City edged out Everton 1-0. A tight game was settled late on when Jodie Taylor scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot.
In Group Two, Lincoln Ladies are the early leaders following their 2-1 success at Chelsea. Precious Hamilton put the Lady Imps in front with Helen Bleazard equalising, before a Carly Telford own goal gave Lincoln victory (see match report).
Bristol Academy also won their travels, 1-0 against Doncaster Rovers Belles. Nikki Watts settled matters with the winning strike, fifteen minutes from time.
