Women's Football News
Tuesday saw the FA Girls' Football Festival supported by Continental Tyres, Sport England and UEFA visit Boreham Wood FC, Meadow Park, home of Arsenal Ladies.
More than 200 girls aged seven upwards from clubs from across the region and girls just dropping in and playing for the first time, took part in the free programme led by FA coaches and aimed at encouraging girls to get involved in the game. They were accompanied by International and FA Women's Super League (FA WSL) players from Arsenal including Faye White, Ellen White, Steph Houghton, Jordan Nobbs and Alex Scott.
The stars of the league made an appearance ahead of the launch of the second season of the FA WSL on Easter Sunday 8th April, where reigning Champions Arsenal take on Everton in their first home match (kick off 1.30pm).
Activities included interactive games and competitions, the ContiWarmUp programme, skills and drills, prizes and goodies for all and digital stations to entertain the girls during breaks from playing.
Participants also had the chance to pose with the FA WSL Continental Cup 2011 trophy and the WSL trophy.
Arsenal interacted with the kids and a Q & A was held to give the girls an insight into the life of a professional female footballer. They signed autographs, had their photos taken with participants, and offered to them free tickets for Sunday's FA WSL first match between Arsenal and Everton and for the UEFA Women's Champions League semi final between Arsenal and FFC Frankfurt on Sunday 15 April at Boreham Wood FC (kick off 3pm).
Faye White said: "It is nice to see so many young girls participating to a festival just for them. It is very positive to see girls taking part in football for the first time and to play so well at such a young age. I can't wait for the big kick off of the WSL on Sunday and we are very pleased to invite all these girls to come and see us."
Tim Bailey, Communications Manager at Continental Tyres added: "It is great to be able to bring the FA Girls' Football Festival to Boreham Wood FC. We hope that today will have provided a taster to the game."
The next event is on Thursday 5th April at Liverpool One Shopping Centre from 11am to 4pm. For more information please visit: www.TheFA.com/girlsfootball
