Arlesey Town have gained their second promotion in three seasons to advance from the Premier Division of the Eastern Region League to the South East Combination for the first time in their history.
Under the management of Craig Rennie and assistant coach John Frost, they lost just one game in 20, winning 15 and drawing 4 whilst scoring 60 goals and conceding just 22, the lowest in the division. Captain Sarah Tayler netted 25 alone, just three short of being the leading goalscorer in the league.
The challenge of playing amongst the likes of Ipswich Town, Norwich City, and local teams MK Dons and Luton Town has created a real buzz at the Hitchin Road Stadium. Presentation night saw awards go to Sarah Tayler for top goalscorer and Players' Player of the season. Kirsty Cooper won Manager's Player of the season and Louise Gash won most improved player, stepping up from the reserve team this season and cementing a place in the back four. Louise Grocott also made the step from reserve team to firsts.
Long serving member Maria Hilling, involved for ten seasons, looks set to become Chairwoman as she steps down from the role of Secretary and deserves a special mention for the stability, ambition and determination she has helped install as the fabric of the club.
With the reserve team competing in Division Two of the Beds & Herts League, Arlesey are excited to be able to offer competitive football to players of all ages and abilities. Presentations to the second team saw Rachel Jones win top goalscorer, 'keeper Mel Sayer win Manager's Player of the season and Dani Godfrey win most improved player of the season.
The first ever trials day is being planned for Sunday 10th June, from 11am for any new players interested in joining a thriving local club. Pre-season training will begin on Sunday 17th June at Arlesey Recreation Ground, from 10.30am.
Anybody interested in playing or sponsoring Arlesey Town LFC should contact Maria Hilling on (07981) 432798.
The last ladies football match of this season sees Arlesey stage the South East Combination League Cup Final between Cambridge Women and Enfield Town.
The final takes place on Sunday 29th April, kicking off at 2pm. It will be a great example of what Arlesey have earned the privilege to compete against and should be a brilliant exhibition of the fastest growing female sport in the country.
