Frankfurt end Arsenal's hopes

Frankfurt won 4-1 on aggregate

Arsenal's Champions League dreams came to an end as two second half goals condemned them to a semi final defeat for the second year in succession.
A 2-1 home defeat in the first leg had left a tough task for the Gunners but the first half was evenly contested. Frankfurt grew stronger as the half wore on, Emma Byrne saving from a Melanie Behringer free kick and Dzenifer Marozsan went close but Arsenal produced their best effort just before the break, a long range effort from Steph Houghton which was narrowly over the bar.
The deadlock was broken on the hour and it was Marozsan who gave her side a firm grip on matters with a shot that deflected in off Alex Scott.
Arsenal responded well to the setback and Kim Little produced a stinging shot which was tipped over by Desiree Schumann. Gemma Davison also went close with a strike which flew just over but Frankfurt always looked dangerous going forward and Marozsan almost netted a second when her shot hit the post.
With five minutes left, Frankfurt put the result beyond and Marozsan was again heavily involved. This time her free kick was turned in by Jessica Landstrom to send her side on their way to the Final, at the Olympic Stadium in Munich.
