Manchester City clinched the Northern Division title and are promoted to the National Division of the FA Women's Premier League following their 1-0 victory over Sporting Club Albion.
However Leigh Wood's team had to be at their most patient as they worked hard to break down stubborn resistance from Albion. A point would have been enough to secure the title but with five minutes remaining, Sarah Buffel sparked City celebrations when she headed home the only goal of the game.
The race is still on for the runners-up spot and two of the contenders, Sheffield FC and Leicester City, battled out a 1-1 draw in a hard fought game. Millie Bailey opened the scoring for the Foxes two minutes before the interval when she slotted home a Natalie Reay corner but in the 85th minute, Lisa Giampalma clipped home the equaliser to pick up a point from Sheffield.
Leicester stay second but have completed their fixtures and must wait and see whether Sheffield, Derby County or Blackburn Rovers can overhaul their points total.
