Cardiff City were the team celebrating National Division survival after a nail biting end to the relegation battle in the Premier League's top flight.
The South Wales side picked up the point they needed when sharing a goalless draw with Aston Villa and the result also guaranteed safety for Watford, who had looked down and out for most of the season.
A win though would have meant Nottingham Forest being safe but it is them and Reading FC Women - second and third last season - who fill the unwanted positions after they drew 1-1 with Coventry City. Courtney Sweetman-Kirk gave Coventry the lead on the half hour and although Jemma Connor-Iommi equalised shortly before half time, Forest could not get a second goal which would have seen them stay up.
In the Northern Division, neither Derby County and Blackburn Rovers would have been happy with the outcome after they fought out a 2-2 draw in their quest to take the runners-up spot.
Danielle Sheen gave Blackburn the lead midway through the first half but Cara Newton and Sam Griffiths ensured that Derby were in front by half time. Lagan Makin earned Rovers a point fifteen minutes from time and the result means that Derby require a huge win in their final game if they are to overhaul Leicester City, whilst Blackburn need maximum points from their last two matches.
