Birmingham City 4 (Williams 17, Harrop 21, Potter 41, Aluko 70) Doncaster Rovers Belles 0
Birmingham City recorded their first victory of the FA WSL season with a comfortable win over Doncaster Rovers Belles at the DCS Stadium.
There was little action to speak of in the early exchanges of the game but this was soon to change as former Belles striker Williams fired the Blues ahead with her third goal of the season on 17 minutes. Carney played in an inviting cross from the right and Williams helped the ball past Belles goalkeeper May Earps into the far corner.
Kerys Harrop soon doubled her side's advantage, tapping home Williams' lay-off after Carney's ball in.
Hungry for an even bigger lead, David Parker's team almost achieved their aim after 29 minutes when Laura Bassett's effort from long range flew narrowly over the bar. Blues were in total command for the remainder of the half, although Lillie Fenton-Billson caused a scare thanks to her shot running just inches wide of Rebbeca Spencer's right post.
But the encounter was all over shortly before half-time courtesy of Potter's header. Carney's brilliant corner picked out Potter beautifully and the midfielder couldn't miss from a couple of yards.
On the other side of the interval, the hosts almost made it 4-0 but Earps pulled off a good save to keep out Bassett's header from another Carney corner.
Not happy with an already glamorous margin, substitute Eniola Aluko brilliantly took the ball round Earps to round off a great afternoon for Birmingham.
However, the scoreline could have been even bigger if it wasn't for the bar stopping Aluko's header from flying in.
