Oxford lift Jubilee Cup
 Women's Football News 22 May 2012
Oxford United Reserves set up a Cup double in the opening match of the Southern Regional League's finals day by beating Newbury Ladies & Girls 6-2 to lift the Jubilee Cup in a very entertaining match.
Both sides had periods of dominance but it was the United front line which was the more clinical and responded with two quick goals both times Newbury scored.

It was the Berkshire team which took the lead through a cool finish by Lily Chubb when played in by an Ellie Reed through ball on seven minutes. Oxford were level within two minutes through Charlotte Comley and ahead on eleven minutes when player of the game Danielle Anderson finished well.

Ruby Oliver nearly levelled with a free kick from distance, then Oxford keeper Nina Merritt did well to foil the hard working Reed at the edge of her area. However Oxford stormed back as half time approached, adding a crucial third on 44 minutes with a Laura Allsop close range volley from an Anderson corner and twice going close in stoppage time.

The Oxford onslaught continued after the break with two attempts cleared off the line after another dangerous cross from Anderson, then Newbury keeper Chloe Hunt saved well from Stacey Coles. Coles then fed Anderson, who slipped the ball past Hunt and in via a post for the Oxford fourth on the hour.

Newbury were far from beaten and gave themselves hope with an outrageous effort from skipper Leanne Creese which lit up the EBB Stadium. Creese launched a first time lob from the right touchline just inside the opposition half, returning a clearance high over Merritt for a memorable goal, almost in the style of a Beckham or a Suarez.

Again, Oxford responded quickly with a double strike. Anderson scored her second from the edge of the area on 73 minutes and a sixth came two minutes later from Allsop with her own second from close in.

Oliver forced Merritt into a good save with another well struck free kick as Newbury continued to contribute fully to the encounter, but it was Oxford who were celebrating a well earned victory at the final whistle, cheered on by their colleagues waiting for their match later in the afternoon.
