Newcastle Emlyn won the Ceredigion League title on Sunday with a 3-0 victory over Aberystywth Town.
In a game of two halves, Newcastle Emlyn made the first chance with a well taken cross from Amanda John that found the feet of Marie Tilley, only to see her volley pushed past the post by Aber's Keryn Hawkins. At the other end of the pitch, Ffion Ashman had to pull off a twelfth minute save from a rocketing shot by Friona Evans.
Even play saw chances come from Emlyn's Josey Wyngrave and Carys Davies, whilst for Aber a deep run from Mel Davies was intercepted by Stacey John and a mazy left wing run from Lucy Hughes was challenged by Emlyn's Marie Tilley.
The second half saw Emlyn come out the stronger side with a 50th minute strike from Carrie Thomas deflect off Sam Gaunt and go wide. However after hammering at Aber's defence, Stacey John broke the deadlock with a 62nd minute goal. Aber fought back and Sam Lumb passed a beautifully executed through ball to Angharad Jenkins who struck it just wide.
John once again through the Aber defence and confidently placed the ball in the top right hand corner for the second goal. Aber tried to bring back the game when Cat Davies and Stevie Cook played a superb one-two, but were denied by the safe hands of the Emlyn keeper. It too Marie Tilley in the dying minutes to put the game well beyond Aber's reach and lead Emlyn to their first league victory in years.
