Girls football at Hampton starts with a bang!
 Women's Football News 29 May 2012
A football club in Hampton recently rolled out a project to dramatically expand its female section in the coming three seasons.
For the 2011-12 season, Hampton Football Club ran an Under-10 girls team who competed in the S-Tech Cambridgeshire Football League. The team enjoyed a good season and finished off as runners-up.
The club have further been working to build their female section since January and have several squads now training on a regular basis in preparation for the 2012/13 season.
The Under-14 squad participated in the Bourne Town Juniors Tournament on Saturday 26th May with two teams being entered made up from the girls that will form next season's Under-15 team. The teams took the names of Hampton Royals and Hampton Blues and received their new playing kit prior to the tournament commencing.
Both teams enjoyed a fantastic day with both teams dominating proceedings at the event and both deservedly landed a place in the semi finals to face Deeping Diamonds and Ruskington Lions. Both teams both pulled out their best performance of the day in the semis to see off all competition against some very tough opposition to leave only the two Hampton FC teams in the Final.
Before the finals started, all the girls huddled together for a full team bond before splitting into their individual teams to prepare to battle it out for the silverware. A fantastic display of girls football followed with both teams working hard in the heat. It was obvious that both teams were desperate for bragging rights, but neither team could break the deadlock in normal time. However in extra time the Hampton Royal broke the deadlock to take the honours.
Hampton Royal squad manager Steve Purnell said: "The girls have only been training together as a squad for a few weeks and the team has really bonded well, which could be seen off the pitch on Saturday. Robin Chaudhuri and I are now really looking forward to working with this very talented group of young ladies over the coming years."
Hampton FC Squads:
Blues - Amy Martin, Amy Gore, Ellie Ireson, Ellie Boothman, Millie Hopkisson, Lisa Coppins.
Royals - Brittany Ellis, Bryony Fox, Alice Hauck, Emily Smith, Stephania Chaudhuri, Megan Purnell.
