Casey to lead GB women
 Women's Football News 8 Jul 2012
Casey Stoney will captain Team GB Women at London 2012.
The Lincoln defender has been capped 103 times by England and she was appointed captain of the Three Lions in May. Now Hope Powell has handed Stoney the armband for the Olympic Games.
"Casey is a great leader on and off the pitch," said Hope. "I know her really well. She has all the qualities you'd want in a captain. She's very committed, very professional and I trust her. And she's also a very good defender.
"She's done really well in the last few years and is a worthy captain for this team."
Casey said: "I don't think there's a bigger honour than leading your team out at an Olympics in your own country.
"I'm massively proud and privileged. It's a great honour and it is a role that I relish. I'm really thankful that Hope has trusted me in that position."
Stoney will lead Team GB Women for the first time against Sweden on Friday 20 July, part of a double header at the Riverside Stadium, as the men's team will take on Brazil.
