England will return home from the UEFA Under-19 Championships in Turkey with a point under their belts after their final group game with Serbia finished in a goalless draw.
The two teams had already been eliminated from the competition with one game to play and England went home without registering a goal in any of their three matches, but will be left wondering they drew a blank on this occasion.
England got on top during the first half but found Serbian goalkeeper Katarina Vojinovic in excellent form. First she denied Keira Ramshaw with a fine save and after Sherry McCue and Ramshaw had both gone close, Vojinovic pulled off another good stop from the unlucky Ramshaw from point blank range and then prevented Jess Sigsworth from putting England in front as she ran through on goal.
After the break, Serbia had more of the play but the frustration continued for England. Vojinovic remained in unbeatable form and this time foiled Beth Mead after the young striker had met a McCue cross with a firmly struck volley. Then the keeper pulled off a even better save by fingertipping away a powerful strike from Jaz Matthews.
England goalkeeper Mary Earps had been a virtual spectator for much of the match but she was up to task whenever called into action, making good stops from Jovana Damjanovic and Nevena Damjanovic.
Sigsworth shot wide after latching onto Nikita Parris' through ball but neither side could break the deadlock and had to settle for a point.
The other group match also finished goalless, meaning that group winners Spain will face Portugal in the semi finals whilst Sweden will take on Denmark.
